Livingston Campus

The expansive Livingston Campus, located in Piscataway and the youngest of New Brunswick’s five campuses, is a place that anticipates the future; it’s where urban studies, women’s history, and computer science first came to the forefront of rigorous academic scholarship. New facilities and current construction propel a 21st-century vision for the campus. A short bus or bike ride across the Raritan River from the College Avenue Campus, Livingston Campus is the place to study in cozy nooks at the refurbished student center and cheer on the basketball teams at “the RAC.”

Campus Deans and Deans of Students

The Campus Dean and the Dean of Students work collaboratively to enrich the academic experience of students and to provide support services. Their offices are located in the same building and they share a joint email account.

The Campus Dean, Lea P. Stewart, organizes academic programs and events that bring faculty and students together beyond the classroom.

The Dean of Students, Cheryl Clarke, focuses on campus well-being and assists students with medical, emotional, psychological, familial, or financial difficulties that are hampering academic success. If you find yourself struggling, the Dean of Students can help.

A Campus Emerges
In 1964, Rutgers acquired from the federal government 540 acres of the former Camp Kilmer army base and the first buildings were erected on the Kilmer-area campus, where Livingston College opened in 1969.
Livingston Student Center
A newly expanded and revamped student center provides state-of-the-art conference rooms for group projects, performance venues, and lounges for a relaxing cup of coffee and a sandwich.
The Louis Brown Athletic Center
The RAC. It’s where the men’s and women’s basketball teams practice and play home games. Exuberant fans and a raucous pep band contribute to a home team advantage.
Kilmer Library
The Kilmer Library houses a focused collection to support undergraduate education. The primary business library at Rutgers–New Brunswick, it also houses career resource materials.
New Housing
New student apartments provide the same close-knit feel of the three dormitory complexes known affectionately—and oddly—as the Quads.
Largest Solar Farm
Rutgers’ 1.4 megawatt solar farm at the Livingston Campus supplies more than 11 percent of the energy used on the campus and helps reduce the university’s carbon dioxide emissions by more than 1,200 tons a year.
The Janice H. Levin Building is a home base for the Rutgers Business School–Newark and New Brunswick. As part of a future vision for the campus, Livingston becomes a locus for business and professional studies.
The recently opened 58,000-square-foot, $30.5 million, 900-seat Livingston Dining Commons offers multiple enticing food stations, including cook-to-order, sushi, Mongolian stir fry, pasta, fresh pizza, deli items, dessert, and a salad bar.

Items no longer of use to the university are up for sale—at bargain prices—at the Rutgers University Surplus Store on the Livingston Campus. Computers, desks, chairs, and filing cabinets are typically available, along with the occasional boat or fire truck(!).
