Extensive recreation facilities on all five campuses make it easy to keep your body moving. Scarlet Knights Scholar-Athletes

The Rutgers–New Brunswick Scarlet Knights succeed on the field and in the classroom.

  • Rutgers football ranks second in the nation in the NCAA’s current Academic Progress Rate (APR), which tracks the academic performance of collegiate scholar-athletes.
  • The football team’s multiyear APR score of 988 was just shy of last year's record 992.
  • Several Scarlet Knights sports teams earned a perfect 1,000 APR score: field hockey, gymnastics, men’s and women’s golf, men’s cross-country, swimming and diving, tennis, women’s cross-country, women’s lacrosse, women’s soccer, and women’s track and field.

Team Building and Leadership Training

Adventure-based training is a great way to develop leadership and team-building skills, as it takes individuals beyond their own preconceived notions about their talents and abilities.

Your group may be asked to swing across an imaginary canyon, pass through a giant spider’s web, or blindly navigate a three-dimensional minefield. You can come to Rutgers–New Brunswick Recreation or we can bring our programs to your site. Available to the Rutgers–New Brunswick community and the general public. Learn more.

Scarlet Knights 

The crowds and crescendos of big-time football or basketball. The hold-your-breath suspense of baseball, softball, tennis, and golf. The high-octane action of soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, and volleyball. The energy and artistry of swimming, diving, and gymnastics. The grit and determination of wrestling, crew, cross-country, and track and field. In all of these sports, the Division I Big East Scarlet Knights provide thrills and excitement throughout the season, drawing crowds from the Rutgers–New Brunswick community and the greater New Jersey/New York/Philadelphia region. Join the fun and don’t forget to wear red to the game!

Recreation 

More than 15 top-flight recreation venues across the five campuses of Rutgers–New Brunswick make it easy for you to find time to keep fit. Take a class—try scuba diving, rowing, salsa, fitness boot camp, rock wall climbing—at our recreation and fitness centers (there’s one or more on every campus). Get your own personal trainer and meet specific goals you have set for yourself. Keep your competitive juices flowing when you join intramurals or a club sport team. Throw together a touch football pickup game on a bright fall afternoon. Or just take time out for yourself to run a loop on a quiet trail.

 

Once a year, Rutgers Recreation opens the 10-meter diving platform to thrill-seeking students looking to confront their fears and have fun.

Intramurals 

Find your slot among the dozens of intramural sports leagues hosted by Rutgers–New Brunswick throughout the year. Men’s, women’s, and corecreational sports range in intensity from friendly to highly competitive. Try indoor or outdoor soccer, wallyball, or under-6’ basketball.

Club Sports 

These student-run clubs have some of the most passionate members at Rutgers–New Brunswick, with students competing against other collegiate teams for glory and the pure love of the sport. More than four dozen club teams compete in sports that are familiar and others that may surprise you: ballroom dancing, capoeira, cricket, equestrian, fencing, ice hockey, paintball, power lifting, sailing, tae kwon do, triathlon, ultimate Frisbee, water polo, and more.

Scarlet Knights for the General Public

Come out for an afternoon or evening of Big East excitement at Rutgers–New Brunswick. The Scarlet Knights field the only Division I football team in the New Jersey/New York metro region, compete in the nation’s toughest basketball conference, and host perennial national contenders in a host of other sports. The action is first-rate, affordable, and fun for all.

Recreation for the General Public

Swimming lessons, deep water hydrotone, safe boating, kickboxing, zumba, spinning, yoga, belly dancing … if there’s a way to keep your body healthy, Rutgers–New Brunswick Recreation has a class for you. A year-round schedule of offerings for the general public, from toddlers to seniors, is committed to keeping New Jersey fit.
